It was over fifty years ago that Old Mr Brennan baked his first loaf of Brennans Bread in a small single room bakery in Fumbally Lane, Dublin. We are now the largest bakery in Ireland, delivering “Today’s bread Today” nationwide every morning. It is still very much a family affair, with Old Mr Brennan’s family still overseeing the recipes and baking skills he perfected.

We are recruiting a Quality Assurance Technician to join our team.  Reporting to the Technical Manager, this exciting and diverse role will have the following main duties and responsibilities:

Purpose of the Role

Work with Technical Manager and Operations Team to ensure optimum food quality and safety. Ensure compliance, processes, quality systems, quality control and hygiene management are at the highest internal/external audit and mandated standards.

Core Responsibilities

  • Maintain and improve Process and Quality Systems
  • Be a key food safety player during the introduction of new products and new processes/ equipment.
  • Highlight and measure gap analysis in processes to ensure compliance to food safety and food quality standards.
  • Establish relationship with supporting food safety bodies such as FSAI, Campden, BRI and other relevant governing bodies.
  • Manage customer complaints.
  • Assess product samples, record findings and report as appropriate.
  • Carry out micro testing with air plates and swabs.
  • Weight controls and records
  • Calibration of small balances and sending some small kit for calibration.
  • Metal detection checks
  • Conduct hygiene audits, insectocuter and glass audits.
  • Carry out effluent and water analysis.
  • Carry out Product & Ingredient analysis.
  • Liaise with pest control, EHO and work with raw material and packaging suppliers. Maintain conformance certificates and specifications.
  • Work with customers on technical specifications/HACCP questionnaires.
  • Organise and maintain vendor reviews.

The Person

  • Food Science or Food Technical Degree
  • 2 years minimum experience in food manufacturing environment
  • Training in basic food hygiene, HACCP, quality system auditing, supplier auditing, Chorleywood process would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of ISO9011, ISO22000 and BRC
  • Knowledge of labelling and food legislation
  • Able to build effective working relationships inside and outside the Company at various levels and accommodate working styles.
  • Strong organisational, planning, time management, project management, problem-solving, and anticipatory skills
  • The capacity to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines and be flexible.
  • The ability to work on own initiative and as part of an interdependent team.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and time management skills
  • Computer literacy - excel, word, PowerPoint.
